1.The Exorcist (1973)
The Exorcist Movie Was Based On A True Story.
The Exorcist, William Friedkin’s masterwork, is one of the most iconic and frightening horror films ever. Adapted from the novel by William Peter Blatty, this film tells the horror story of the demonic possession of a young girl, Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair), and the frantic efforts of her desperate mother (Ellen Burstyn) to save her when the doctors are unable to find a medical cause, two priests — Father Merrin (Max von Sydow) and Father Karras (Jason Miller) — are summoned in to conduct an exorcism, which triggers one of the most frightening and awful struggles between good and evil ever to make it onto the big screen.Author name – William Peter Blatty
Story Explained
Introduction: The Beginning of Evil
The movie begins in northern Iraq, where Father Lankester Merin (Max von Sydow), an old Catholic priest and archaeologist, is excavating. He digs up a small demonic relic of Pazuzu, an ancient Mesopotamian demon. While he studies the statue, strange omens indicate that a malevolent entity has awakened. Merrin feels a sense of war between good and evil brewing, which sets the tone for what lies ahead.
Part 1: The Possession Begins
In Georgetown, Washington, actress Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) lives with her 12-year-old daughter, Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair). Chris is busy working on a film and has a hectic life, but she is still a caring and devoted mother.
One night, Regan starts to have strange things happen to her—her bed rocks back and forth at night, she can hear scratching in the attic, and she becomes odd. At first, Chris thinks it’s psychological or stress, but when Regan’s behavior gets worse, she takes her to doctors.
Regan begins to use profanity, has violent tantrums, and even says to an astronaut at a party, “You’re gonna die up there,” and then urinates on the floor.
As the weeks go by, her condition worsens:
Her voice changes, becoming deep and guttural.
She turns physically violent.
. makes unnatural, inhuman gestures.
. speaks in foreign languages she’s never studied.
Despite many medical examinations—brain scans, psychological assessments—doctors are unable to find an explanation. They recommend an exorcism as a placebo because some patients with strong faith respond well to it.
Part 2: The Terror Escalates
Desperate now, Chris turns to Father Damien Karras (Jason Miller), a priest and psychiatrist who has lost his faith following the recent death of his mother. Sceptical at first, Karras makes a visit to Regan, who is now strapped to her bed, her face horribly deformed, smeared with sores and cuts.
The presence in Regan harasses Karras, claiming to be the Devil and communicating in several different voices. Even once, it imitates Karras’s mother’s voice, taking advantage of his feelings of guilt.
Chilling moments ensue:
.Regan floats out of bed.
.Things move around the room.
.She turns her head full circle in an impossible action.
.She self-mutilates with a crucifix in a creepy scene.
Still in doubt, Karras collects evidence. He tapes Regan uttering gibberish, but played in reverse, it creates articulate, evil sentences. Believing in an actual demonic possession, he requests permission from the Catholic Church for an exorcism.
Part 3: The Exorcism
The church delegates Father Merrin, the veteran priest of the first scene, to conduct the exorcism, with Karras as his helper. The ritual starts, and the tension is incredibly palpable:
.Regan twists and howls in agony as holy water is sprinkled over her.
.The room becomes ice-cold, with visible breath from the priests.
.The demon taunts and harasses them, changing voices.
Merrin, seasoned but physically frail, continues to recite the Rite of Exorcism, but the demon retaliates fiercely. At one stage, Regan’s body shakes violently, forcing Merrin to fall over from exhaustion.
Karras exits momentarily but returns to discover Merrin dead, probably from a heart attack. Alone now, he angrily insists the demon possess him instead. In a final sacrifice, Karras goads the entity into possessing his own body. With a fleeting moment of control, he throws himself out of the window, falling down the historic Georgetown stairs to his death.
Conclusion: The Aftermath
The possession is ended, and Regan, normal once more, remembers nothing of it. Chris chooses to leave Georgetown, attempting to leave the trauma behind.
As they are leaving, Regan greets Father Dyer, a friend of Karras, and spontaneously kisses him on the cheek—a sign that something inside of her knows the sacrifice that was made. The movie concludes on an uncomfortable but somewhat positive note.
Final Rating: 10/10 – A horror masterpiece

As the boat drifts into a storm drain, Georgie stumbles upon an eerie clown within—Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård). The clown appears to be nice at first, returning Georgie’s boat to him, but seizes his arm and brutally pulls him into the sewer, where he is murdered.
The Losers’ Club & Their Fears
Months after, Bill’s brother Georgie (Jaeden Martell) won’t accept that his brother is dead. He and his crew of misfit friends, called The Losers’ Club, start probing the town’s vanishing cases. Each of them has had frightening encounters with Pennywise, taking advantage of their respective fears:
Bill – Tormented by Georgie, hearing his voice and witnessing images of him.
.Beverly (Sophia Lillis) – Finds a sink that is bleeding, symbolizing her fear of maturation and abuse.
.Richie (Finn Wolfhard) – He is afraid of clowns, something that Pennywise takes advantage of later in the movie.
.Eddie (Jack Dylan Grazer) – A hypochondriac child, his deepest fear is illness and disease, something that gets turned against him by Pennywise.

.Mike (Chosen Jacobs) – Tormented with hallucinations of his parents burning alive.
.Stanley (Wyatt Oleff) – Afraid of an eerie, twisted woman who appears in one of the paintings.
They understand that Pennywise is not only a clown but also a shape-shifting monster that survives on their terror and devours children.
Pennywise’s True Nature
From studies, they learn that “IT” has lived for centuries, reappearing every 27 years to terrorize the town. It survives on fear, employing illusions and psychological horror to demoralize its victims before devouring them.
As they continue to research, Pennywise gets more aggressive, showing up in monstrous forms, baiting them into traps, and feasting on their deepest fears. But what they also discover is that by standing together, they are powerful enough to withstand his control.
The Climax: The Battle in the Sewers
The Losers have decided to battle Pennywise in the sewers, his underworld lair in Derry. Beverly is kidnapped and brought to his hideaway, where she has a vision of The Deadlights—Pennywise’s real, otherworldly self. Rather than being frightened, she becomes catatonic, demonstrating that defiance of fear destroys Pennywise.
The group saves Beverly, and a fierce fight ensues. They strike Pennywise with all their might, not wanting to be scared. Weakened and outnumbered, Pennywise flees into the shadows, gone for now. The children promise to come back if IT ever returns.
Ending & The Final Promise
At the end of summer, the group makes a blood oath, promising that if Pennywise ever comes back, they will return to Derry to battle it once more. They all disperse, but Bill has an emotional farewell with Beverly, suggesting their deeper bond.
